Maintaining High Quality Tiled Floors

It is a beautiful clear early evening with stars shinning above; and the downtown business community is a buzz. Shops line each side of the attractive street as far as the eye can see. The streets trimmed with wide, clean, free of debris side walks carefully placed leafy trees adorned in white flickering lights, and fine white rock in an area of about four square feet surrounding the base of the trees. As passerby?s stop in front of the immense display windows of the retail shops shopping for a pretty dress, powerful hand tool, computer game or that special toy that lay just the other side of the glass partition that separates them from their desires. Simultaneously two families enter separate stores on opposite sides of the street both shops quaint fully stocked with the treasures they seek. Greeted by sales clerks wearing smiles upon the face, but there is a difference however, one store is very busy, and the other is sparsely filled with customers. The only significant difference besides clientele is the entranceways the store that is busy has a lovely entrance with plants; decoration and a well maintained high gloss tiled floor. The other store with very few customers has some stray leaves that have blown in the entranceway no accessories and a dirty tiled floor with no shine; it is not very inviting. First impressions are lasting impressions; the appearance of the floor in the entranceway of a business can make a good impression on potential customers and visitors or it can make a business look inferior in fact a neglected floor can be detrimental to a business.

This is a problem area that plagues most business owners and commercial contract cleaners. As a professional self employed commercial contract cleaner for nine years now I have experienced great satisfaction leaving a business with a high quality high gloss floors its a great feeling of accomplishment. I have also experienced going into businesses that do not maintain their floors. It is disheartening to say the least to see a facility that is neglected because management is trying to save money or because of employee and or customer abuse. It is hard work stripping, scrubbing, moping, sealing, waxing, and buffing out a tiled floor. It gives me pleasure to make a business owner or manager proud of their business again; shinny clean tiled floors can build a new sense of pride for employees as well as managers or business owners.

It is important to educate people such as employees, managers, and business owners on the importance of maintaining high quality tiled floors. For example, if these people were to do their part to help maintain the floors like sweeping and moping on a regular basis or as needed until the professional comes back to redo the tiled areas.

There are, however, things that can be done to ensure high quality tiled floors for most establishments. They include the following: Business owners could take the time to inspect their buildings for less than satisfactory floors, and take steps to remedy the situation. For example, solicit help from commercial contract cleaning companies to educate select employees chosen to help maintain the tiled floors. This would help customer relations and make employees aware of what is actually involved in maintaining tiled floors.

When asked for their input customers, employees, even students will tell owners that a high gloss floor is not necessarily something they notice, but a dirty dull floor is easily noticed and does effect their attitude negatively toward a store, business, school, and especially eating establishments. A well maintained building, tiled floors being a large part of the maintenance process makes the teachers, students, and other important staff that occupy this building on a daily basis feel a major influence on their pride in our school. The employees that work for me take great pride in their work and the pleasure it brings all who enjoy their time in my house, that?s what I call it because I too am equally proud of what we do.? Also Susie Little Director of Miller County Division of Family Services (DFS) said,? My employees seem to be more concerned about the appearance of their own work areas if the general areas of the building are well maintained especially the tiled floor areas such as the break room and entranceways. When they are happy they keep me happy.?

The key to making business owners, employees, and all others who enjoy nice clean floors happy is constant maintenance of the tiled floors. According to Jim Towels,? education and training are the keys to maintaining floors to a high standard. Employees, maintenance personnel, and management have to be taught the procedures of maintaining floors then they will realize the need for spills to be cleaned up immediately, reporting leaks, and any other situations that occur that may be detrimental to floor finishes. If we all work together we can be proud of our building and enjoy it for a long time to come.?
